The Hohensalzburg Fortress, otherwise known as the Upper Salzburg Castle (also known as the fortress), is situated on a peak called Festungsberg, a small hill in the Austrian city of Salzburg. The fortress was erected on the orders of the Archbishop of Salzburg in the 11th century. The fortress is 250 m long and 150 m wide, one of the most extensive medieval castles in Europe.
