The S-125 Něva/Pečora (Russian: С-125 "Нева"/"Печора", in NATO code SA-3 Goa) is a Soviet anti-aircraft missile complex designed by the KB-1 design bureau, dealing with the guidance system. The rocket was developed since 1956 by the OKB-2 office. The complex is designed to destroy air attack vehicles flying at ground to medium altitudes, and its task was to supplement the S-25 and S-75 systems, which ensured the destruction of high and fast-flying targets. If necessary, it can also be used to destroy ground (surface) radar-visible targets.
The missile has a shorter effective range and lower velocity than its predecessors, but its two-stage design makes it more effective against maneuvering targets. The complex is more modern and resistant to electronic countermeasures than the S-75 system. The 5V24 (V-600) missiles reach speeds of 3 to 3.5 M and both rocket stages are powered by solid propellant engines. The naval version of the system was given the NATO code name SA-N-1 Goa; the original designation is M-1 Volna (Russian Волна – wave). On the territory of the municipality of Mokrá-Horákov there is a former air defense missile base of the Czechoslovak Republic with the task of protecting the city of Brno. It was armed with a set of S-125 Neva.
