The Gothic Pernštejn Castle from the middle of the 13th century stands on the eastern edge of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands, near the settlement of Pernštejn, part of the town of Nedvědice, which formed its castle grounds. The building of the Lords of Pernštejn with a simple bergfrit layout was rebuilt and expanded several times until the 16th century, yet it was not lost its defenses during its transformation into a representative and comfortable residence, thanks to which Pernštejn is one of the most important Moravian castles. It is a protected monument, in 1995 it was declared a national cultural monument. The castle is owned by the Czech Republic, is open to the public and is managed by the National Monuments Institute.
