The Eiffel Tower is a steel tower in Paris, currently the most famous landmark of Paris. It was built between 1887 and 1889, and until 1930, when the Chrysler Building was completed, it was the tallest building in the world at a height of 300.65 meters. Today, it measures 330 meters at the top, including the antenna. It is named after its designer Gustav Eiffel.

The Eiffel Tower was built on the occasion of the centenary of the Great French Revolution and the World's Fair, which took place in Paris in 1889, and was originally scheduled to stand there for only 20 years until 1909. However, due to its importance as a meteorological station has been preserved. At first, the Parisians hated this building and called it a thorn in their side. The writer Guy de Maupassant regularly visited the restaurant located in it, stating that it is the only place in Paris from which he does not have to look at the tower. Critics of the building also included Émile Zola and Alexander Dumas. Following the costly maintenance of the tower, the Czech impostor Viktor Lustig tried to sell it to scrap twice in 1925.

Today, the tower is a major tourist destination that Parisians are proud of and which is visited annually by about 7 million people (2014) from around the world.

The tower has three platforms, the first at a height of 57 meters, the second at a height of 115 meters and the third at a height of 276 meters. The three legs of the tower run the cable cars to the first and second floors, in the fourth leg there are pedestrian stairs [source?]. From the second floor, elevators then lead to the third floor. The maximum oscillation of the peak even in very strong winds is 12 centimeters, the height can fluctuate by up to 18 centimeters due to temperatures (thermal expansion). With optimal visibility, you can see up to a distance of 67 kilometers from the top. Below the tower is a bust of Gustav Eiffel, placed here in 1923 by Antoine Bourdelle.

Under the balcony of the first platform, there is an inscription around the entire perimeter composed of 72 names of prominent scientists and engineers, in recognition of and a reminder that without their theoretical and practical contributions to science, the construction of the tower would not be possible.

The tower was a model for many imitations, for example for the Petrin lookout tower or the Blackpool Tower.
