Polaky is a Baroque chateau in the village of the same name about 7.5 km southeast of Kadaň in the district of Chomutov. It has been protected as a cultural monument since 1963.
The predecessor of the Polák chateau was a Renaissance fortress built in the first half of the sixteenth century by members of the Mašťov branch of the Lords of Kolovrat. The first written mention of it comes from 1546, when Jan Žďárský of Žďár bought it from the Kolovrats. In 1552, his son sold the entire farm to Felix Hasištejnský of Lobkovice, from whom he inherited to his sister Barbora and later to Václav Lobkovice in Duchcov. Bohuslav Hasištejnský of Lobkovice bought the Poles from him, left them to his wife Anna of Fictum, but after his death they belonged to his eldest son Jan Waldemar Hasištejnský of Lobkovice.
From 1589, the Poles belonged to Jan the Elder of Lobkovice on Točník and after him to his brother Ladislav Popel of Lobkovice on Zbiroh. He and his brother Jiří Popel of Lobkovice fell out of favor with Emperor Rudolf II, so in 1593 he fled abroad. His property was confiscated by the royal chamber, but because a substantial part of Ladislav's property came from the dowry of his wife Magdalena of Salm, the Poles and other estates were returned to her. It was immediately sold in 1596 to Linhart Štampach of Štampach in Ahník. The Štampachs lost the manor for some time for participating in the estate uprising, but in the end it was returned to Zdeslav Štampach in 1628 because, although he was an evangelical, he remained loyal to the Habsburgs. Zdeslav soon sold the estate to Jindřich Šlik. His daughter Marie Sidonie sued the Poles with her husband, who had to return the farm to her in 1662 and pay all the damage. The Strojetič family from Strojetice, Count Gustav Adolf from Warmsbach and the counts from Questenberk also took over ownership.
The fortress was severely damaged during the Thirty Years' War. In the years 1745–1815, the village belonged to the Counts of Pergen, who had it largely demolished at the end of the eighteenth century and replaced it with a Baroque castle according to plans drawn up by the Žatec builder Vavřinec Rodt. The last aristocratic owners of the farm were the Windischgrätz family from 1815 and the Lobkovici family from Dolní Beřkovice from 1869. After the land reform in 1926, the chateau with the courtyard gradually belonged to the families of Josef Hrbáček and Adolf Kollmann. The last time the chateau was thoroughly repaired was in 1928. The repair was carried out by the Liběd builder Antonín Rimpl. In the second half of the twentieth century, the chateau housed the state farm. The heavily damaged castle is privately owned. Since 2020, the chateau has been owned by the Svojanov castellan Miloš Dempír, who strives to save it and make it accessible to the public.
