Velhartice is a castle in the village of the same name in the district of Klatovy. It stands on a rocky promontory above the left bank of the Ostružná river at an altitude of 640 meters. It was founded at the end of the thirteenth century by the lords of Velhartice. The dominant feature of the castle is the ruins of the palace called Rajský dům and the Putna tower, between which a unique stone bridge leads. The castle, which is accessible to the public, is owned by the state and its management is ensured by the National Institute of Monuments. It has been protected as a cultural monument since 1964 and was declared a national cultural monument in 2001.
