The VAZ 2101 is a Soviet lower-middle-class car manufactured between 1970 and 1983. It was the first model produced at the Volga Automobile Plant (VAZ). A small passenger car was sold on the Soviet market under the name Zhiguli (Russian Chiguli according to the Zhigul Mountains). The name Lada was used for export markets, in Western countries it was sold under the name Lada 1200. [1] The car was based on the Italian Fiat 124, which underwent a number of changes for the needs of Russian roads, including the installation of a completely new four-cylinder engine. The 2101 model became very popular, especially in the domestic Soviet Union, but also in other countries of the socialist camp, and became the basis for the development of other important VAZ models.
