Tatra 613 is a representative limousine of the upper middle class, manufactured by Tatra in the period from 1974 to 1995 as a successor to the second generation of the Tatra 603. The first prototypes were built in 1969.
The Tatra 613 is one of the automotive legends and is exceptional in both its construction and history. The car was developed in Czechoslovakia as a representative and comfortable car, designed mainly for top government officials and officials of the ruling Communist Party. It was used by presidents, members of governments and directors of state-owned enterprises. The car was not freely available; was produced in the Tatra branch plant in Příbor in regulated small series, which is why its small series production with a high share of manual work was expensive.
In the production of passenger cars, the Tatra 613 brought a departure from the aerodynamic bodies typical of the company, used in higher-class cars since 1933 (Tatra 77). However, the concept of an air-cooled V8 engine at the rear of the body has been retained. Many solutions of the chassis groups of the Tatra 603X prototype were used during the construction. This, together with the location of the engine above the rear axle, had a major effect on the exceptionally good driving characteristics. The T-613 body was the work of the renowned Italian company Carrozzeria Vignale. The first cars were built directly in Italy and were delivered to Czechoslovakia in early 1969. The car did not go into production until after the end of development in 1973 and was produced in a modernized form until 1995, when it was replaced by the technically derived last passenger car. - Tatra 700. Over time, there have been several modernizations of both the engine and the interior and body. The type designations have changed since the modernization. The most important models were the T613, T613-2, T613-3, T613-4 and T613 S (Special).
