The first written mention of the village of Bruneswerde can be found in the will of Olomouc bishop Bruno of Schaumburg dated November 29, 1267. In 1536, Olomouc bishop Stanislav Thurzo granted the right to use the municipal coat of arms with a golden rose.

The Silesian Syrakovský family from Pierkov (Pěrkova) left the biggest mark in the history of the village. Probably the most significant achievement of their rule was the construction of the Renaissance castle from 1560-1570, which was started by Jaroš Syrakovský, Mr. Proskovic and Staré Vesi. After his death, his son, Ctibor Syrakovský, the highest scribe of the Margrave of Moravia, continued the construction. Thanks to his position and wealth, he could afford to expand the project with representative premises. The facade decorated with figural sgraffito was also his merit.

The Syrakovskis also significantly rebuilt the local church, which became their final resting place. Their wives were also buried here. An interesting thing is the Renaissance fresco with a biblical scene discovered in 2000.

At the time of the Thirty Years' War, the village passed to Krištof Karel Podstatský from Prusinovice. At that time, the village is shown for the first time on the map of Moravia, the author of which was Ján Ámos Komenský. According to local tradition, a Swedish military garrison looted both the castle and the church in 1643, but a small part of the Swedes were driven into the castle cellar and killed there. The pub is therefore called Švejďák.

After almost 300 years, Stará Ves was taken over by the Olomouc archbishopric. In 1930, the city of Moravská Ostrava became the owner. During the crisis of 1938, the local part of Košatek temporarily separated from the rest of the village due to annexation by Nazi Germany on the basis of the Munich Agreement and remained until the end of the Second World War. In 1991, the village became independent from Moravská Ostrava.

In 1999, the parliament approved municipal symbols based on the historical sign. The banner was supplemented with two stripes symbolizing two local parts and wavy lines. Yellow symbolizes the rivers Ondrejnica and Lubina flowing through the territory, and black symbolizes the river Odra.
