Maulbronn Monastery is a Cistercian monastery in Germany in the federal state of Baden-Württemberg. It is considered the best-preserved medieval monastery west of the Alps. It has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1993.
The monastery was originally probably founded in another locality (Eckenweiher) by the knight Walter of Lomersheim around 1138. The founding convent was a convent sent from the mother monastery of Morimond. In 1147, thanks to the activity of the bishop of Speyer, the entire convent was moved to Maulbronn, where it has been preserved to this day.
Important German authors such as Hermann Hesse and Friedrich Hölderlin are also very closely connected with the history of this monastic seminary.
