The M551 Sheridan was an American light tank (introduced as a reconnaissance vehicle in the US Army) of the Cold War era. It is named after the American general from the time of the American Civil War - Philip Sheridan. The tank, which was developed as a replacement for the light tank M41 Walker Bulldog, is considered one of the most controversial modern American tanks, mainly due to its unconventional armament. The tank, produced in the number of 1662 pieces, was used in combat in the Vietnam War, the invasion of Panama and the Gulf War.
