Libochovice is a castle in the town of the same name in the Litoměřice district in the Ústí nad Labem region. The castle is protected as a national cultural monument. It is managed by the National Monuments Institute and is open to the public during visiting hours.
The predecessor of the castle was a Gothic fortress, which was owned by the Zajícs of Hazmburk in the fourteenth century. The Lobkovics acquired it from them, who built a Renaissance castle on the site of the dilapidated fortress. Its preserved appearance is the result of a vigorous early Baroque reconstruction initiated by Gundakar of Ditrichštejn. The castle belonged to his descendants until the mid-nineteenth century. At that time, it was acquired by the Herbersteins through marriage, and remained in their possession until it was nationalized in 1945.
