The Douglas A-4 Skyhawk is an American single-seat subsonic attack aircraft originally developed in the 1950s for the United States Navy and Marine Corps. The delta-wing, single-jet aircraft was developed and manufactured by Douglas Aircraft, later McDonnell Douglas. Until 1962 it was marked A4D Skyhawk. The Skyhawk is a relatively light aircraft with a maximum take-off weight of 11,100 kg and a maximum speed of more than 1,080 km/h. Five suspension points allow you to carry various rockets, bombs and other ammunition. It is capable of carrying a bomb load comparable to that of a World War II Boeing B-17 bomber, and can also shoot down nuclear weapons using a low-altitude bombing system and looping techniques. It was originally powered by a Wright J65 jet engine, but since the A-4E version, a Pratt & Whitney J52 engine is used. More than 50 years after the first flight and a significant role in conflicts such as the Vietnam War, the Yom Kippur War or the Falklands War, some A-4s are still in service, including service on an aircraft carrier.
