Frydek palace

Frýdek-Místek Castle is originally a Gothic castle, located at the Castle Square in Frýdek-Místek. Today, the Beskydy Museum is located here with an extensive exhibition documenting the history and culture of the Beskydy region. The building regularly hosts various exhibitions, concerts, theater, weddings and drama shows.

 

The first mentions come from 1327, when the Piast family from Těšín decided to build a castle. This castle served mainly to protect the then emerging town of Friedeck. During the 15th and 16th centuries, the castle underwent a number of alterations, and in the 16th century, the south, west and east wings were added, already in the Renaissance style, and the castle was rebuilt into a chateau. In the 17th century, however, the castle burned down and had to be renovated. It reached its present form in the 18th century. At the beginning of the 19th century, the Habsburgs seized it and transformed it into the Classicist style, and after 1918 the chateau became the property of the Czechoslovak state, where the Directorate of State Forests and Estates Frýdek was also located from 1923.
