Ferrari 512 S is the designation for 25 sports cars manufactured between 1969 and 1970 with five-liter 12-cylinder ("512") engines, related to the Ferrari P sports prototypes. Cars with the V12 engine were entered in the 1970 teams. Later that year, modified versions resembling their main competitor, the Porsche 917, were called the Ferrari 512 M (pro modificata). In the 1971 International Championship for Makes, the factory focused on the new Ferrari 312 PB and left 512, which was entered only by private individuals. Since 1972, 512 (like 917) have been withdrawn from the World Championships following a rule change, and some 512 have been entered in private hands at CanAm and Interserie.
