The ruins of Falkenstein Castle are located near Pfronten in the Allgäu region at an altitude of 1,268 meters. In 1883, King Ludwig II of Bavaria acquired the site and planned to build a romantic fairy-tale castle similar to Neuschwanstein or Lichtenstein in its place. The initial design by Christian Jank, who had also designed Neuschwanstein, proved to be architecturally and spatially impractical. Consequently, Georg von Dollmann took over the project, intending to make the structure smaller and more cost-effective. However, this did not please the king, leading to the termination of the contract. Subsequently, King Ludwig II approached architect Max Schultze, who developed the plans that serve as the basis for Schreiber's model.
Unfortunately, the project was never realized and remained a dream as the king drowned in 1886. The structure would likely be a globally renowned attraction today, drawing tourists from all over.
