The Guichen was a protected cruiser of the French Navy. He was in service from 1899–1922. He participated in the First World War. From 1917 it was used as a fast transport.
The main task of the cruiser was supposed to be actions against enemy shipping. He was poorly armed for his size. The vessel was built by Ateliers et Chantiers de la Loire in Saint-Nazaire. Construction began in October 1895, the cruiser was launched in October 1897 and commissioned in 1899.
