Hukvaldy are the ruins of a castle in the Hukvaldy village of the same name in the Frýdek-Místek district in the Moravian-Silesian region.
The first mentions of the castle date back to 1285. German counts from Hückeswagen are considered the founders. In the middle of the 14th century, the castle was acquired for the first time by the Olomouc bishops, who were its most frequent rulers. Their ownership was even confirmed in 1355 by a papal bull, which at the same time forbade the castle to be sold or founded. In 1465, the Czech King George of Poděbrady acquired the castle, who immediately sold it back to the Bishopric of Olomouc. The then Bishop Tas from Boskovice was financially helped by his brothers Dobeš and Beneš Černohorský from Boskovice, who took over the castle after the death of Bishop Tas from the plague. During the reign of the lords of Boskovice, the castle underwent many significant structural modifications, and the same was true after their death at the beginning of the 16th century, when the Hukvaldys once again and definitively returned to the Olomouc bishopric. Since then, the bishopric (since the 18th century the archbishopric) owned the castle until it was nationalized in 1948.
