Beriev Be-12 Chaika ("Seagull", in the NATO code "Mail") is a Soviet, or a Russian anti-submarine and patrol amphibious bomber flying boat that replaced the obsolete Beriev Be-6 machines from 1960. The prototype of the machine took off in October 1960, and in the same year mass production began. The machine is equipped with radar and modern devices for detecting enemy submarines. It is used not only in the military, but also in the civilian area. It was used in search and rescue operations.
