The Peugeot 405 T16 was a powerful version of the standard sedan produced after the car's facelift since 1993. The discreet-looking sedan, indistinguishable from the Mi16, hid the heart of a skilled athlete - a 16-valve XU engine doped with a Garret VAT 25 turbocharger with variable blade settings. From a volume of 1998 cm³, it offered an output of almost 200 hp (144 kW) in the range of 5000 to 6500 rpm and a torque of 288 N.m in the range of 2600-4500 rpm, in addition to the so-called overboost, when the power jumped to 45 seconds value of almost 220 hp (158kW) and 318 N.m. Another significant change was the use of all-wheel drive with a viscous clutch and Torsen rear worm differential. Nevertheless, it was not a Spartan sports car, but rather, at the time, a top-equipped luxury GT. This is a very rare version, information on the number of cars produced varies between 400-2500 pieces, the most frequently mentioned number is 1016 pieces. The racing version of the Turbo 16 was very different from the civilian version. It had a coupe body with an engine located in the middle. It had constant all-wheel drive and steering. The technical basis of the special was taken over and improved from type 205 T16. Only 2 cars were produced for the Dakar Rally and other desert marathons. In 1988, the Peugeot 405 T16 won the popular American Pikes Peak. In the same year, Peugeot also took part in the Dakar with two 205 cars and two 405 cars. However, one four-hundred-year-old had technical difficulties and the leading car, Vat Vatena, was penalized for missing the time limit for starting the stage. In 1989 and 1990, however, these cars already won.
