The self-propelled howitzer vz. 77 Dana (also written DANA – Délo automobilní nabijené automatyčné) is a Czechoslovak self-propelled howitzer (ShKH) of 152 mm caliber with an 8×8 drive. The development of the weapon was completed in 1976 at the Slovak company Konštrukta Trenčín and a year later the Dana was introduced into the armament of the ČSLA. A total of 672 self-propelled howitzers vz. 77 were subsequently produced at the ZŤS Dubnica nad Váhom plants.
The howitzer is placed on a modified (for example, the V12 engine is mounted in the rear with the fan facing backwards and the half-axles have opposite offsets in the direction of travel) chassis of a Tatra 815 truck, which at the time of its creation distinguished it from most other self-propelled guns that were installed on tracked chassis. The vehicle has a filter-ventilation device allowing operation even in contaminated areas and is equipped with a central tire inflation system. The machine is equipped with an automatic loader, in case of emergency it is possible to load the howitzer manually. A 12.7mm machine gun DŠKM vz. 38/46 is mounted on the roof of the turret.
Based on the DANA self-propelled howitzer, new or modernized versions have been gradually developed, for example, in the case of the ShKH ZUZANA it is a Slovak product of the company Konštrukta Defence a. s. Trenčín. Modernized versions of the original ShKH Dana are also offered by Czech companies of the Czechoslovak Group holding.
