The Honda Prelude is a sports coupe produced by the Japanese automaker Honda from 1978 to 2001. The two-door coupe was derived from the Honda Accord and was produced for five generations. The Prelude was sold in Japan by Honda through the Honda Verno retail chain.
The Prelude is in the same car category as the Toyota Celica, Nissan Silvia, and Mitsubishi Eclipse. Due to declining demand, production of the Prelude ended in 2001 with the introduction of the Honda Integra DC5.
The name Prelude was originally a trademark of Toyota, but was later given to Honda.
The Prelude had five generations, which followed one after the other:
first generation (1978-1982),
second generation (1983-1987),
third generation (1988-1991),
fourth generation (1992-1996),
fifth generation (1996-2001).
Generations differ in body shape, with subsequent generations also came more powerful engines and passive and active safety features. In the fourth and fifth generations, the 2.2-liter engines are equipped with variable valve timing marked VTEC. Since the third generation, it has been found in the Prelude 4WS, or rear steering axle, but only in some models. The fifth generation of the Honda Prelude was the most powerful in the type S version, with the H22A engine with a volume of 2.2 L, with variable valve timing VTEC with a power of 217 horsepower (162 kW; 217 PS) at 7,200 rpm with a maximum torque of 163 lbf ft (221 N m) at 6,500 rpm.
