Citroën Traction Avant (which means front-wheel drive in Czech) was the first mass-produced car with front-wheel drive and a self-supporting body. It was produced by the French car manufacturer Citroën in the years 1934–1957. Around 760,000 cars in several designs were produced during this time. Traction Avant meant a literal revolution in automotive production. In addition to the welded shell self-supporting body and front-wheel drive, it also had independent front suspension, torsion bar suspension and a bold design. The original 7A was a sedan with a small 1303cc engine. However, it was soon replaced by the 7B and 7C models with progressively more powerful engines. The Type 7 was followed by the Type 11, which was larger and was therefore powered by the 1,911 cc 46 hp (34 kW) engine from the Type 7S. This model and its variants were offered as a two-door coupe, four-door sedan, convertible and also in the Familiale version as an eight-seater or luxury four-seater limousine. The Commerciale hatchback with a split tailgate was also on offer.
