The Aichi D3A was a World War II Imperial Japanese Naval Air Force single-engine two-seat dive bomber. In the Japanese Navy, it was known as the Type 99 deck bomber. The Allied codename of the type was Val. It experienced its greatest glory in 1941 and 1942, when these planes attacked Pearl Harbor, the British and American fleets, participated in battles in the Coral Sea, the Battle of Midway, and the battles for the Solomon Islands.
